TestModules

TestModules plug into the TestStation and provide the interface between the TestWare test control software running on the PC and the individual signals going to and from the Unit Under Test (UUT).  The Automatiq TestSystem owes much of its flexibility to the ability to add various TestModules to the TestStation  as needed.  A total of twenty TestModules may be installed in the TestStation.

Currently there are three TestModules available.

System Control TestModule

System Control TestModuleThe System Control TestModule always occupies the first slot in the TestStation.

Its primary function is to manage the interface between the PC and the other TestModules.

The standard TestStation comes with one System Control TestModule installed.

Control Functions

  • Manages the USB link with the PC
  • Controls the flow of test instructions and test data between the PC and the UUT
  • Controls electromechanical components in the TestStation
  • Manages system calibration in which all I/O channels can be calibrated automatically to an internal or external voltage standard
  • Detects the TestFixture ID Code.

Control Functions

  • A precision voltage reference, +10.0 Volts
  • A 16-bit DAC output channel, ±12.8 Volts
  • A 16-bit ADC input channel, ±12.8 Volts
  • Serial interface, RS-232/422/485
  • +5V @ 500 mA and ±12V @ 500 mA each

General Purpose TestModuleThe General Purpose TestModule is the workhorse for the Automatiq TestSystem.  It provides a total of 32 test signals - 16 outputs and 16 inputs - for use in a wide range of medium accuracy analog and digital test applications

The standard TestStation comes with two General Purpose TestModules installed.

Control Functions

  • 16 independent DAC outputs, ±12.8 Volts, 12 bits, software programmable to be either an analog output signal or a digital logic signal
  • 16 independent ADC inputs, ±12.8 Volts, 12 bits, software programmable to be either an analog input signal or a digital logic signal
  • A positive programmable power supply, 0 to +12.8 Volts, 11 bits, 250 mA
  • A negative programmable power supply, 0 to -12.8 Volts, 11 bits, 250 mA

Interface TestModule

Interface TestModuleThe The Interface TestModule allows external test instruments to be connected the Automatiq Functional Test System and controlled from the test program. It supports off-the-shelf test instruments that have RS-232/422/485 ports.

Architecture

TestModule routes test signals between external test instruments (connected to J1-4) and the unit under test (UUT). The four port connectors J1-4 (DB-25) are located on the rear panel of the TestStation. Each connector provides the following signals:

  • A serial port, configurable in software to be either RS-232, 422, or 485 (2 or 4 wire)
  • Four programmable, relay-switched signal lines to the TestFixture (switched in pairs)
  • Six direct signal lines, extra un-switched connections to the TestFixture

Each serial port and its packet structure is configured in software. After configuration, the inputs and outputs of the instrument can be accessed using the Signal name without concern for the complex interface protocols.

  • The interface TestModule also provides six undedicated, programmable relay contacts for switching signals in the TestFixture or UUT.

Only one Interface TestModule may be installed in a TestStation and it must be installed in Slot 19.
